1. Introduction

CheeseTrace ("we", "our", or "us") is a mobile application designed to help artisan cheesemakers monitor pH, temperature, and aging conditions during cheese production. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. We use this solely to authenticate you and associate your batch records with your creamery.

2.2 Batch and Production Data

CheeseTrace stores the data you enter about your cheese batches: cheese type, milk volume, pH readings, temperature measurements, tasting notes, and ratings. This data belongs to you.

2.3 Sensor Data

If you connect a Hanna HALO2 pH meter via Bluetooth or a Tuya smart sensor for aging chamber monitoring, CheeseTrace reads and stores the pH, temperature, and humidity values those devices report. We do not access any other data from your devices.

2.4 Camera and Photo Library

CheeseTrace may request access to your camera or photo library to allow you to photograph pH meter displays for reference. Photos are not uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly share them.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the CheeseTrace service
  • To store and retrieve your batch history and sensor readings
  • To authenticate your account securely
  • To display historical charts and trends within the app

We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

4. Bluetooth Usage

CheeseTrace uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to communicate with the Hanna HALO2 pH meter. Bluetooth access is used exclusively to receive pH and temperature readings from your device. We do not scan for, store, or transmit data about other Bluetooth devices in your vicinity.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers. We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext. Access to your data requires authentication with your account credentials.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.

6. Third-Party Services

CheeseTrace integrates with the Tuya IoT Platform to receive data from compatible smart sensors. When you connect a Tuya device, readings are sent to CheeseTrace via a webhook. Tuya's own privacy practices are governed by their privacy policy.

We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking tools.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Export your batch records

8. Children's Privacy

CheeseTrace is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of CheeseTrace after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
